Aisling Irish Language and Drama Troupe

Aisling

A Play Set In Mythological Ireland

Performed in Irish
Fully Narrated in English

The best of Irish music, dance, language, and culture in a full-length, full-scale production!

AILDT - Aisling DVD cover

This delightful drama is a light-hearted, romantic tale of courtly intrigue, generously seasoned with musical and dance segments, highlighting the deep and rich cultural heritage of Ireland.

The play itself is bi-lingual.  The actors speak in Irish and a narrator immediately translates the colloquial dialogue into colloquial American English.  Aisling's unique and innovative format is a milestone in the theatrical world.  The way music, language, and drama have been combined in Aisling is a fresh, bold idea.

Aisling is an original play, written in San Diego by Patricia Page, and translated brilliantly by Dublin-native Ita Kavanagh.  Many well-known local Irish musicians, dancers, and actors are among the cast.  Although the play is Irish, the cast and crew of Aisling are multicultural.  People from all across the United States and other countries have come together to bring life to the show, which is intended to reach out to and connect with people of all backgrounds.

The Lyceum Performance

Aisling premiered before a full house at The Lyceum Theater, Horton Plaza, located in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego, on Saturday, January 26, 2002.  The show was a spectacular success, a night of laughter and entertainment thoroughly enjoyed by all!

The East County Performing Arts Center Performance

The breakthrough play Aisling performed a second run at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon, on Saturday, June 26, 2004.  The show was even better than the first time around, full of pageantry, energy, and entertainment!

Professionally filmed, the DVD of the second performance is available now.  Click here to view the trailer and find out how to order.

The Irish Language

The word aisling (pronounced "ash-ling") means dream or vision.  It is also a popular girl's name.

The classes are free and open to everyone.  So, come down and pick up a few words you'll hear in the play, or brush up on the Irish you already know.  For more information, contact the webmaster, or visit the House of Ireland website.
