Naruwan Taiko |
The name of “Naruwan Taiko” stems from the same word “naruw’an (???)” from the indigenous Taiwanese Ami language meaning “Welcome [for] we are all in the same family.” Similarly, to live up to its name, Naruwan Taiko’s mission as a performance group is to welcome people of all ages and all levels to join (not just limited to the Taiwanese or Japanese community) and to learn the style of Japanese drumming. As a group, Naruwan Taiko hopes to encourage teamwork, creativity, physical activity, and confidence in expression for each individual. As a branch of the Taiwanese American Community Center, Naruwan Taiko will also assist in broadening and strengthening the presence of the TACC in the community and to encourage increased youth awareness and participation in group activities. Lastly, the group hopes to provide performances for both the San Diego area and other cities as well.

Tango With Colette PERFORMANCE GROUP |
When Tango Master Colette Hebert, winner of the 2003 USA Tango Championship and finalist in 2005 of the "Tango Salon" competition in Buenos Aires, the ultimate Tango World Competition (the "Mundiales"), return to the USA, she could not foresee how fate would land her, softly but inevitably, in San Diego, where she would start a new life.
Since her arrival, she has had only one aim in mind: to bring to San Diego the most authentic and pure expression of the Argentine Tango dance, teaching to her students in exquisite detail its incredible emotional and technical demands.
To say that she has been able to see already the fruits of so much effort and energy put into it is an understatement.
As early as 2009 she started to take special care of a dedicated group of "special" students, who, going beyond the usual requests to learn from Colette the social side of the dance, wanted rather to explore the totally different and technically intimidating "stage" variety.
Tango With Colette PERFORMANCE GROUP, was born then and it has never looked back. Every month, more and more organizations, business meetings,
City of San Diego events, and even Emmy Awards ceremonies, to mention a few, ask to share with their audiences the breath-taking excitement of this TwC Performance Group, who deliver Tango in an almost addictive manner.
Welcome, sit back and enjoy the art, the passion and the intricate beauty of Tango!

JD Allstars Salsa Band
|
The JD Allstars Band was originally formed in 2002 as Orquesta Rico Tumbao. Band leader Juan Duprey’s founding premise was that San Diego’s latino community should have a hi-performing Salsa band, reminiscent of those great bands Juan so fondly remembered from his early years in Puerto Rico. For six years Rico Tumbao was one of the most popular Salsa bands in the area performing at many venues from Ensenada, Mexico to Los Angeles, CA.
Sadly, after a 2 year struggle with illness, Juan Duprey passed away in the Autumn of 2009. In October of 2010, five original members of Orquesta Rico Tumbao reunited. Alberto Diaz, Richie Enchelmeyer, Johnny Salinas, Danny Navarro and Hector Rodriguez assembled a new collection of talented musicians with renewed commitment to keep that spirit alive. In honor of Juan Duprey their fallen brother, the band was reformed as the JD Allstars Band.
Together with their long time collaborator Julio Valdez on piano, the JD Allstars can now be heard performing their rich Salsa Dura (Hard Salsa) sounds throughout the San Diego Area. In addition to many popular Salsa tunes, the JD Allstars are now performing original material. As an added flavor, the band’s repertoire includes many Latin Jazz, Brazilian and popular Jazz numbers.
“Live Salsa music is alive and well in San Diego. We have been well received by the community and we know that Juan Duprey is smiling down on us at each performance. We become energized when the fans dance with us.”
